Among the 68 speed violations, two drivers were caught going 50 km/h over. In Ontario, motorists caught going 50 km/h over the posted speed limit are charged with street racing or stunting violation. Penalties for such infraction includes

  • Roadside licence suspension and impoundment of vehicle
  • Upon conviction, a $2,000 to $10,000 fine, six demerit points, up to six months in jail and up to two years suspension for a first conviction

In a traffic blitz for speed enforcement, police typically lines up several police cars along the highway, and deploy and LIDAR (laser gun) shooter who reports descriptions of speeding vehicles to the chase-car officers.

KMPH Recommendation for Ontario motorists
